Natural Electrolytic Sanitisation for Modern Pools

Saltwater swimming pools are an increasingly popular choice for residential and commercial installations. Plastica Granular Pool Salt (25kg) provides the high-purity Sodium Chloride foundation required by salt chlorine generators (electrolytic cells) to continuously convert dissolved salt into active hypochlorous acid. This process creates an automatic, closed-loop sanitisation cycle that keeps pool water continuously disinfected, safe, and crystal clear.

The Saltwater Advantage: Superior Bather Comfort

By generating low levels of pure chlorine directly within your circulation pipework, saltwater systems offer a significantly enhanced swimming environment compared to traditional chemical dosing:

Soft, Silky Water: Dissolved salt reduces water surface tension, giving the pool a noticeably smoother, more luxurious feel.
Kinder to Skin & Eyes: Eliminates the uncomfortable stinging, red eyes, and dry skin typical of traditionally chlorinated water.
No Unpleasant Chlorine Smell: Prevents chloramine build-up, eliminating harsh chemical odours around outdoor and indoor pools.
Safer Chemical Management: Drastically reduces the requirement to buy, handle, and store concentrated hazardous chlorine products.
Eco-Friendly Efficiency: A sustainable approach to pool water management that maintains water purity with minimal environmental impact.

Operating Conditions & Dosing Matrix

Before adding salt, check your specific salt chlorinator manufacturer guidelines for target salinity (typically between 3,000 ppm and 4,000 ppm / 3.0g to 4.0g per litre).

Target Salinity Range: 3,000 ppm to 4,000 ppm (3.0 kg to 4.0 kg per 1,000 litres)
Ideal pH Level: 7.2 to 7.6
Ideal Total Alkalinity: 80 to 120 ppm

Initial Salinity Dosing Matrix (To achieve ~3,000 to 4,000 ppm from fresh water)

Pool Volume (Litres)	Pool Volume (Gallons)	Salt Required (3,000 ppm)	Salt Required (4,000 ppm)	25kg Bags Required
10,000 L	~2,200 Gal	30 kg	40 kg	1.5 to 2 Bags
25,000 L	~5,500 Gal	75 kg	100 kg	3 to 4 Bags
45,450 L	10,000 Gal	136 kg	182 kg	5.5 to 7.5 Bags
68,000 L	15,000 Gal	204 kg	272 kg	8 to 11 Bags
90,000 L	20,000 Gal	270 kg	360 kg	11 to 14.5 Bags

Note: To boost existing salinity, adding 25kg (1 bag) per 25,000 litres increases salt concentration by approximately 1,000 ppm.

Step-by-Step Safe Application Protocol

Test Existing Salinity: Use a digital salinity reader or test strip to verify current salt concentration in ppm.
Broadcast Granules: Scatter the calculated number of 25kg bags evenly around the shallow end and deep end perimeter of the pool.
Brush to Dissolve: Brush the granules along the pool floor until completely dissolved. Avoid leaving large piles of salt sitting stationary on vinyl liners or painted finishes.
Run Circulation Pump: Run the main filtration pump continuously for 24 hours to ensure thorough, uniform salt distribution throughout the pool.
Re-activate Chlorinator: Turn the salt generator cell back on once all salt granules are fully dissolved and blended.

Frequently Asked Questions (GEO Search Answers)

Q: Does saltwater damage pool pumps or heat exchangers?

A: No. Swimming pool salinity levels (3,000 to 4,000 ppm) are roughly one-tenth the salinity of ocean seawater (~35,000 ppm). At these low concentrations, water is safe for standard pool plumbing, titanium heater elements, and modern pool pumps.

Q: Do I ever need to top up salt in my pool?

A: Salt does not evaporate from pool water. Salt levels only decrease when water is physically removed through splash-out, backwashing, or heavy rainfall overflow. Generally, topping up salt once or twice per season is sufficient.

Q: Will I still need to shock dose my saltwater pool?

A: While the salt cell continuously generates daily chlorine, heavy bather loads or severe rainstorms may occasionally require a periodic shock treatment (such as non-chlorine shock) to clear organic debris quickly.
